On the day our Special Guests are:  Stéphane Borie, Chef proprietor, The Checkers, Montgomery  Rosie Davies, Harpist  Penny Zako, Demonstration cook, AGA  Penelope Timmis, local artist
Stéphane Borie
Stéphane grew up in Agen, Lot et Garonne. He was surrounded by family who respected and loved food - from his Perigourdin Grand Father Marcel's potager to his Aunties Jacqueline, Evelyne and Danielle's refined culinary skills. A kitchen apprenticeship in his hometown was followed by an invaluable experience in Bordeaux at La Tupina. This was perfect preparation for a once in a lifetime opportunity to work for Michel Roux Snr at The Waterside in Bray. Seven years in this 3 Michelin Star kitchen shaped and honed Stéphane's skills and made him the confident and exacting chef he is today. Today this Frenchman is absolutely settled in Montgomery - he and Sarah have three children - Lexie, Roxanne and Fabien - all of whom share their parents' passion for food! Stéphane earned a Michelin start within seven months of opening his restaurant, The Checkers, at Montgomery. On the Winter Promotion Launch Day, Stéphane will be cooking some of his signature dishes, and will be signing copies of his new book, ‘The Frenchman and The Farmer’s Daughters’, which has its foreword written by Michel Roux Snr.
Rosie Davies
Harpist Rosie started playing the harp at the age of 12; being the third generation of her family to do so. She is based in Mid Wales and before completing her undergraduate, she was awarded second prize at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. Following her first class honours graduation, she undertook her teacher training. Rosie has played at Weddings, Corporate events and other social events across Powys, Shropshire, Denbighshire, Wrexham, Cheshire, and Staffordshire on her beautiful pedal harp which can be amplified using a pick up. Audiences are delighted with Rosie's varied repertoire, which ranges from folk music, through to classical and modern music.
Penny Zako
AGA Cook Penny is an AGA owner although she grew up cooking on a solid fuel Rayburn. In 2011 she won the title of ‘Britain’s Best Starter Dish’ after appearing on ITVs Britain’s Best Dish. Penny has cooked for Michelin awarded chef John Burton Race and at The Savoy Hotel in London. An avid supporter of local produce, Penny specialises in developing seasonal recipes with the best of British ingredients. She is Food Editor of regional magazine ‘Streets Ahead’ and a constant visitor to the farmers markets, devising recipes to include local produce for everyone at home to create. Penny is also a respected restaurant critic in the Midlands area and a regular on judging panels to taste local foods.
